Amdanga is a community development block that comes under the administrative division of North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal with an area 139.27 square kilometers and the population of 192242 as per 2011 Census. The block is a part of the north Hooghly flat, one of the three psychographic regions in the district located in the lower Ganges delta. It is a raised alluvium area along the Hooghly, which forms the Western boundary of the district. Amdanga, the eponymous development block headquarters is located in Rafipur Mouza at 22o 48` 20``N, 88 o 30` 30``E, and is bounded by Haringhata Block in Nadia district in the north, Habra-II Block in the east, Barasat-I Block in the south and Barrackpore-I and Barrackpore-II Blocks in the west. It has eight Gram Panchayats namely Adhata, Amdanga, Beraberia, Bodai, Chandigarh, Maricha, Sadhanpur, and Taraberia comprising of 138 Gram Sansads and 81 Mouzas.
Amdanga is unanimously known for its extremely devout Kali Mandir. The Kali Mandir at Amdanga is anticipated to be instituted around 500 years ago. The enormously awakened Maa Kali is the established Goddess here. People across state pay their homage regularly.
Amdanga is a minority concentrated block (MCB), Muslims being 58.48% of the population and Hindus and others being 41.30% and 0.22% of the population respectively. Economy of Amdanga block is mainly based on agriculture, 19.42% of the total workforce is cultivators, 35.59% are agricultural labourers, 2.74% are engaged in household industries and 42.24% are other workers.
